Who We Are

Your Children's Bookshelf is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing FREE children's books through our Donors and Program Partners to families & children in-need; encouraging the love of reading and providing equitable access to books helping foster literacy and education.

Our History

Your Children’s Bookshelf (YCB) was sparked and inspired by published children’s author Mary Jane Miller, whose life demonstrated the love of reading, writing, and family. Mary Jane’s incredible connection to children and caregivers is woven through her stories and her family.

'Our Books to You'

The YCB “Our Books to You” program was developed as an opportunity to continue our mission of providing FREE new and gently used books to disadvantaged families and children during these trying times. Each Tote is filled with up to 6 age-appropriate books. Since our launch YCB has provided over 22,288 books to over 4,400 children through this program to date. Call us now to become part of this great program and help to foster literacy.

In middle-income neighborhoods the ratio of books per child is 13 to 1, in low-income neighborhoods, the ratio is 1 age-appropriate book for every 300 children

Podcast Storytime

YCB's Podcast - Storytime presented by Your Children's Bookshelf provides on-line listening experiences for kids in English and Spanish. It's been a pleasure to offer a way to listen to some of the most recognizable classic books. Since our launch in 2020, we've had over 17,000 downloads, while having 117 stories to listen to. Classics like The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, Doctor's Dolittle Circus, El cuento del Gatito Tomasin, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Tale of Samuel Whiskers, The Tale of Mr. Tod, The Tale of Little Pig Robinson, La Historia del Dr. Dolittle, The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Peter Pan. YCB has also been fortunate to have several self-published authors books on our Podcast like Kamunga the Chameleon and the Man with the Wild Brown Hair, Kathryn & Elizabeth Go Shopping, Inglebert Ed, When the Dinosaurs stayed at Home and Lela - The Littlest Search Dog.
